Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik Laid the Foundation Stone of Rs-754 Crore Integrated sewerage system for Bhubaneswar
On 15.7.2008 Honorable Chief Minister Sri
Naveen Patnaik Laid The DPR was presented to Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and 12th Finance Commission of Government of India for funding. After due appraisal by H & UD Department, the project got financial assistance from the following sources:
(a) Govt. of India ACA (80%) Rs.399.13 Crores (b) Govt. of Orissa & ULB share (20%) Rs. 99.78 Crores The 20% State share shall be met from JBIC loan (*) 2. 12th Finance Commission Grant Rs. 140.00 Crores 3. JNNURM funding for soft components like DPR preparation cost, Rs. 49.89 Crores PMC service, IEC, A&OE etc. (Presented to MoUD, GOI) 4. State Govt. funding towards land acquisition cost. Rs. 65.43 Crores * JBIC loan agreement has been signed & effectuated by Government of India for “Orissa Integrated Sanitation Improvement Project”. The soft loan would be received at 0.75% rate of interest, payable over 40 years with 10 years of moratorium. The sewerage system of Bhubaneswar city envisages (a) Laying of 412 Km length of underground gravity sewer for collection of sewage from households and establishments throughout the city in uncovered areas, (b) Replacement and renovation of all existing old sewers, (c) Construction of main, Intermediate & Lift Pumping Stations (34 Nos.), (d) Construction of Sewage Treatment Plants (6 Nos., total capacity upto 2021 – 190 MLD) & (e) Construction of Low Cost Sanitation Units in the city area (New community toilets complexes in public places and slum areas – 49 Nos. and renovation of existing community toilets – 26 Nos). The new sewerage system has been planned by dividing the city area into 6 (six) sewerage Districts, which shall be provided with an independent sewerage network, pumping system, sewage treatment and disposal system. The sewerage system has been designed for a projected city population of 22 lakhs upto 2041. The project area of 145 sqkm includes all wards of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (except wards beyond river Kuakhai) and fringe areas covered under city master plan. The project will ensure proper treatment of generated sewage in the city area with provision of modern treatment technology like Standard Activated Sludge Process. The project will provide good and effective sewerage services to the urban population and will reduce non-point source of pollution. Overall sanitation condition of the city will be improved. The project has been planned to be implemented by 2011.
