Women Councilors Training Programame
On-17th
-19th November 2008 a three day training programme for
Elected Women Councilors of Puri District Urban Local Bodies was
conducted. In this programme eighteen participants participated. This
three day training programme was supported Ministry of Urban
Development, Govt. of India and Housing & Urban Development Department,
Govt. Orissa. The Urban Local Bodies of Puri Municipality and Notified
Area Council of Konark, Pipili and Nimapara Women councilor
participated.
The objectives of the training programme are:

To orient the elected women representative on their roles, responsibility, Govt. Programmes and 74th CAA;

To provide knowledge on Urban Administration, Governance & Management;
-
To initiate discussions on Sustainable Urban Development and Good Governance;
-
To understand new options of managing cities;
-
To learn various urban governance innovations
It was organized by City Managers’ Association Orissa. The purpose of the workshop was to enable women elected representatives to understand various aspects of Urban Governance & Management. The participant attended includes Chairperson, Councilors, The three days’ training comprised of introductory session, technical sessions, field visit and evaluation & appraisal. Participants provided feedbacks and evaluated the programme in Evaluation Session.
The subject areas of discussion include Sustainable Urban Development, Roles & Responsibility, Innovative Municipal Resource Mobilization, City Development Plan, Municipal Accounting, Property Tax Reforms, Public Private Partnership, Poverty & Livelihoods, City Disaster Management and Urban Environment etc. Participants for the first time learned on subjects like global warming, climate change, urban transport and gender perspectives in urban planning processes. At the end of the Programme, participants presented their action plans. All successful participants were provided certificate of participation.
